In Urban Explorers, young adults (18-30) with middle-range intellectual disabilities learn empowering life and job readiness skills necessary to survive and thrive in the urban setting. We develop connections and rootedness in the community. From our home base at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science students learn about local ecosystems, organic gardening, healthy lifestyles, and how to navigate public transportation – while visiting parks, museums, and other public places in Miami-Dade. To express themselves and build communication skills they also work on projects with local artists and shares their knowledge by creating an educational videoblog series on a YouTube channel.
